190 rear tire
A buddy just gave me new set of Bridge-stones he will not use...he owns a 1098R so the size is 190...not 180 like on my 848...
Since they are free and I would like a nice set for the track I believe 190 will fit...?
But has anyone done this before and what did you notice handling wise...?
Free is free...
thanks...

It can be done but hard to say exactly what it will do to handling. Most will say it will slow the steering down but it depends how intense you are on the track whether you'll really notice the difference.

You had better match the front as well then. Playing with just a rear is not a wise idea really. Just my .02

Why should I have a fear of anything? If there's a higher power and He decides He wants me, He's going to take me anyway. And if there isn't, then I'll ride it all the way in.

i was also going to put on a 190 rear but i was told from a lot of respectable people here that the 190 will completely mess up the balance of the bike and turning....

probably a silly question...but if the chassis and overall size of the bike is simiular to a 1098 why would going to a 190 mess it up...?
Also when you say mess are we talking about the weekend track warrior, would he notice the difference or would you have to be competing to feel or see a difference...?
just curious...thanks...

The overall chassis isn't the problem, it's the rim itself. The 1098 uses a 6" rim width while the 848 uses a 5.5". You'd have to be competing to see any real dif between the 180 and the 190.

I am running a 190, did it when I upgraded to mag wheels. If u want to keep the same geometry, you need to put an adjustable rear linkage on the bike, and pull the rear down to compensate for higher profile tire, assuming it is 190/55 size. Handlingwise, tough to say, as I changed to much lighter wheels, but it could not have changed it too much, much more grip now though...
